The funding of LCHIP's administrative budget
We receive $6 from each sale of the conservation license plate (Moose Plate). Our administration is paid for with the license plate funds (60%) and from interest earned on our Trust Fund (40%). No State funds appropriated to the Program are used for administration. Fully staffed, LCHIP employs 4 full-time people. As part of its RSA, the Program is required to submit an annual report to the Governor and Executive Council as well as an annual report to the Conservation License Plate committee. The Program also receives an independent audit annually.
The funding of LCHIP's grants
LCHIP receives an appropriation from the NH legislature for grant-making. All appropriated funds go directly to projects. Eighty percent (80%) of the funding for a project already comes from the community. LCHIP funds only cover on average, 20% of the project cost. The State has an important role to play, by being the lynchpin-funding source that holds a project together and helps ensure it gets done.
